Looking Unto Jesus

We humans spend around 60-70% of our time using our incredible eyesight. We use it to find our clothes when we get out of bed in the morning, to make breakfast, to read our Bibles, books, and emails without even thinking twice. I just killed a spider on my desk and I couldn't have done it without seeing where the spider was!!! The pleasure of seeing its guts on a piece of paper.......

But there's another kind of vision. And no, I'm not talking about dreams or trances or anything like that; I'm talking about spiritual vision. And this week I've been thinking about it a lot.

I think that this thought revolves around these verses:
Hebrews 12:1,2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.......

Ok, stop right there. So that we can run the race with patience, we need to lay aside each weight; what could that mean? Anything that impedes our race. These could be thoughts, idols, or anything that consumes our attention and thought life. A runner wears very light, flexible clothing. He also strengthens himself. Our minds should be the same.

.....And the sin which doth so easily beset us. We need to lay aside our sins: confess them and move on. When we focus on what we've done wrong, we disable our thinking. We get super selfish because we focus on what we've done wrong. I'm not saying that we need to excuse sin; sin needs to be dealt with by confession and repentance. Don't wallow in it. Get up and move forward, the finish line is just ahead!

.......Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

When life gets you down, look at Jesus! Look at who he is, since you can't see him face to face yet. The Bible gives you the best description, and, guess what? It's enough for today, tomorrow, and until you get to see his face.

Well, I guess I just wanted to share this comforting thought with you. I hope that it blesses you as much as it has blessed me!

Looking unto Jesus,

Emily Jo
